I put together a short video of a recent camping/backpacking trip we did down at Devil's Den State Park in Arkansas. Enjoy!
This was Julie's first ever backpacking overnight trip (and Notch and Penny's as well)! Overall it was a success, but I look forward to getting the three of them back onto some new trails soon.
Below is a list outdoorsy things to do in no particular order. Suggestions welcome in the comments below.
In preparing for my trip to Colorado later this year, I decided to make use of the tools at www.lighterpack.com in order to examine the current state of my backpacking gear. This particular "Warm Pack" is assuming a solo adventure. The main difference between this pack and a non-solo pack would be the use of a tent that could occupy my wife as well rather than the hammock setup.
Due to the fairly high weight of my hammock setup at the moment the difference between my tent and hammock system are fairly negligible. I plan on taking some time in the next month to review some specific items from this list - some that I love and some that I hate and want to replace.
What a fantastic break in this exceptionally cold winter!
Glen and I did this short hike at the end of January over two days. It was short (just 5 miles or so each way), but it featured a great overlook of rolling hills and what is becoming my favorite backcountry campsite at Rocky Creek Falls.
